Because of a shortfall of ringers the morning peal was off so I had to go tower grabbing. It is always the case, as proved by Mike Henshaw a few years back, that ringing at the CC weekend is less than good. Indeed it is always a case of lots of people very few ringers. This gives cause for concern about why they are on council and how much they actually know about ringing. That coupled with the usual tower grabbing problems, two bobbed leads of Little and clearing off to get the next tower leaving the current tower short, make for a frustrating time. Anyway we rang at Heworth, where George rang with Alan Regin and we rang at Southshields. Both nice sets of bells. On to the Cathedral. It is many years since I rang here and I had heard lots of criticism about the cathedral bells. What rubbish. These are not only very good but pleasant to ring under. It was perhaps one of my most enjoyable 12 bell peals. Thoroughly enjoyable and Neil did a first class job on the tenor. There are so many good rings of bells up here it could be worth moving up here. On to Frosterly for a pint and a grab at the Black Bull ring. We were joined by Deborah, Pen & Iona and the Crockers and Richard & Ruth. We actually managed a course of Newcastle S Minor. Very good. 23rd May 2008. Off to Newcastle for Henrys second visit. Central Council actually. You know you are in Newcastle when you see people drunk and falling about in the road at 4.30pm on a Friday. Off to St Johns for a peal with Barrie of Bristol S Major. These bells are terrific. They go well and sound sensational. Very good composition by Alan Reading which I shall add to my must call list. 21st May 2008. What no George ? No George by 7.20pm so we rang Doubles. Very nicely too. 19th May 2008. Quarter at Harkstead of Nacton. A nice variation of Norwich. 17th May 2008. Peal at Ashover. It made a nice change to ring Cambridge Royal for a change. The interesting and varied way the bells course around each other fascinates. Interesting bells, a little distinct inside and I felt the hard work by the back bells pre & post rollups was not rewarded as the rollups were less than impressive sounding. Of course they were expertly rung. On to Beeston. We rung Grandsire Triples for the wedding and I thought I was going to enjoy these. True they sound wonderful for about 3 courses, but then the Simpson wail just get to you. They are too loud in the ringing room. Bernard called an interesting composition by Stuart Hutchieson with two in/fifths, so long length and surprisingly no reverse rounds. GWP, (not born in Suffolk), phoned while I was out to see if I wanted to buy a copy of Englands Child. K told him I had had it for 4 weeks and nearly finished reading it 14th May 2008. George & Deborah went to Hacheston for a grab. They managed Plain Hunt on five. Peal at home in 30 Surprise Minor. A couple of interesting moments, but on the whole a very good effort. 11th May 2008. Aldeburgh with a good method to an interesting composition (variation of Humphrey's 24 course block) by Alan Reading. Few to many mistakes for my liking, but still AAFS (above average for Suffolk). The immediate past President of the Yorkshire Association joined us for a few days. It's always good to see Deborah especially as she can put up with the children. Major computer problems, it may be a few days before its sorted. 10th May 2008. Peal at Toft. Delightful church in the middle of nowhere. Nice six and a good peal rung. The local ringers wife was evacuated to Abbingdon during the war. On to Barrington. A complete William Blews of Birmingham six. As is always the case, the un-tuned bells effect the overall sound detrimentally. Still a good peal rung. 5th May 2008. Peal at Dean Prior. These are much more like the Devon sixes you expect. Quality bells, quality ringing and we were joined by Don & Hilary. On to Dartington. Again a very fine six. Thanks Mervyn, another super weekend. 4th May 2008. Coryton, peal of 21 Doubles. Interestingly hard work for a 6cwt ring and would not have been out of place in Suffolk. The three old clappers hang on the wall behind the tenor. Visiting ringers at the Wolery. 3rd May 2008. Its that time of year again, so it must be Devon. Feniton, nice six once you get them going. On to Aylesbeare. Again a good six. 1st May 2008. Quarter at Great Holland of Bristol Surprise Major. 27th April 2008. Peal at my favourite eight Milton. 96 cru's with 24 off front. Great despite sitting in traffic on the M25 for 40 minutes. George rang for Sunday service with Grandad at Bildeston. 26th April 2008. Peal at Cranfield. Interesting six because of EH but there is no doubt they could have been much better. On to Hilton. Nice six, nice peal. 23rd April 2008. George to practice at Stutton with grandma. It seems that some sad person suggested that he could make money by scratching my name of peal boards in Suffolk. That proves that DNA can be wasted. We rung a good peal at home with some Hull. I was going to ring the peal for the anniversary of the announcement that all ringing at Kings Lynn had stopped following their re-hang by Taylors Air and Smith. But apparently the work has been done. All the cement replaced and extra pads that TES said were unnecessary added. Watch this space. 20th April 2008. Peal of Bristol in Bristol, Kingsdown to be accurate. Lovely. Nice bells first class composition. Peal board on the wall from 1879, Grandsire Triples composed & conducted by Thomas Salter. 178 bobs and 62 singles. Must see if I can find it. 19th April 2008. What a lovely day, well except Rattlesden bells. Nice peal rung, above average for Suffolk. Interesting service to mark David & Pats 50 years of marriage, then a wonderful spread at Woolpit Village Hall. It seems like only yesterday Dave & Pat started up ringing at Rattlesden with Neil and the one from the Sealed Knot ! 14th April 2008. Quarter at Harkstead of Tattingstone Wonder S Minor. Another GET new method. Not bad. 13th April 2008. Peal attempt at Hartlepool. What can I say ? No matter how hard I pulled, the tenor would not go up at hand. Managed just over three and a half courses. 12th April 2008. Peal of London at Gosforth. Very nice ten with excellent pre-peal entertainment from Ron. On to North Shields, where KJS rung the treble. What a cop out. 9th April 2008. Peal at The Wolery, 30 spliced. Getting better. 7th April 2008. Lost at Shaddington & Milton. A most unusual day. 6th April 2008. Service ringing at Ardleigh with GMS. Two lots of rounds and call changes. 4th April 2008. Peal at Scole. 2.15. Again very nice peal and this time I went to the pub. 3rd April 2008. Peal Woodton with Bobbie & Bill & Co. Nice peal bringing out the best of these bells. 1st April 2008. After a little break from ringing for us both, Katharine goes to Carlton Rodes with Bobbie. Only they did not score, but went to the pub. Situation noted. 21st March 2008. Consternation at 8 am. Anne full of cold. Fortunately Josephine kindly stood in at short notice. Unfortunately first peal came to grief with 11 courses to go. Pity but my fault for choosing the wrong type of method. We then rang a good peal of Allendale to a composition by Martin W Marshall. Very nice, with an interesting block of five wrongs in each part. Just time to shoot off to East Bergholt with George, so he could see the bells being rung. 16th March 2008. A very wet run to the best eight in the country. Milton. New method with 96 crus and 54 off front. A slightly different Byroc composition shunted around to give the best off the front music. 15th March 2008. Off up north to the Black Country. Wombourne. Interesting bells with a low ceiling, very hot church heating and a tenor slow at both strokes !!!! Nice Lead end B method, Zurbaran to a composition by Gabriel Lindoff, first called by Les Wightman at Helmingham in 1937. On to Bridgnorth. Got to the station in time to see 4566 run round. Despite the rain, it was good to see trains at Bridgnorth. On to the Cliff Lift, well worth a vist, then to the tower. One local said the bells were good, another said the two trebles were like tin cans. However they are a very good Taylors 1939 job, if just a bit loud in the ringing room. Nice new method named after Old Moore who came from Bridgnorth. Hammered back down the road in the rain to get to the Suffolk Guild 85th anniversary dinner. Made it in time for the speeches. The Bishop was excellent, unlike the cabaret. Jokes about people using a communal loo in the presence of the Bishop. Some bits were good, but about 55 mins to long. Not enough time to socialise. Surprising lack of Ipswich ringers ! Nice to know its not just me they didnt support. 12th March 2008. Peal at home. So thats what Cunecastre should sound like ! Good peal to gain experience of some of the less easy 41, rung with attack and enthusiasm. And chocolate cake to follow. 9th March 2008. Peal at Aldeburgh. Stratford Surprise major by Richard Allton. Nice music on the front and back, 2468s and 7568s. Well AAFS. 8th March 2008. Peal at Ratby. Lovely Taylors 1896 six with two trebles added in 1931. Large belfry, beautiful sound. They sound more like 18cwt than 9cwt. 144 crus and 54 off front from Tonys composition. Very enjoyable. On to Knighton, Interesting re-built church, but not re-built bells. Something lacking particularly after Ratby. Another 144 crus but finishing with three homes. Bernard !!!!! 1st March 2008. Peal at Barton Le Cley. Rutland to a composition by the originator of the method, George Baker. I rang a quarter here in 1997, and was not impressed then. For a 1990 Taylors job they are not very good. 22nd February 2008. Katharine to Grundisburgh for a successful quarter of London Major. 21st February 2008. Took George to the junior practise at Tostock. Trouble with Double Oxford, yet a very creditable course of Cambridge rung. 20th February 2008. Peal at home, 8 methods doubles in double quick time. 16th February 2008. Peal Great Haseley, these are fantastic. What a great loss G&J were to the Bell founding art. On to Cold Aston where it was cold. 13th February 2008. Peal at the Wolery, 12 spliced. Cunecastre needs work. 12th February 2008. Peal at North Mymms. These are terrific !!!. Just proves how good Taylors used to be. The stepped ringing room is interesting. Happy Birthday Adam. Evening peal at Saxmundham, called off. 10th February 2008. D, GCH to Ardleigh for service ringing. RCC on 8, plus a bit of Stedman Doubles. KJS peal Aldeburgh. 9th February 2008. Peal at Clayworth. Very good Taylors eight done recently by Taylors pre-merger. Interesting composition from Dons computer, with 39 crus and 50 off the front. Humphreys gives a lot more. On to Hickling, newish Mills & Boon job. Hard work. 8th February 2008. Belfry Advisory Committee at Winstons. Work going on at Cratfield, St Lawrence Ipswich, Dennington. 7th February 2008. Practice at Rougham with George. These should go better than they do, they redeem themselves outside where they sound wonderful. George rang well. 3rd February 2008. Peal Milton. New method with a very small choice of compositions. Washbrook's produced 72 cru's and a good mix off the front. Nicola is a Professor. 1st February 2008. Practice at Pakenham with George. These are a first class White's job, given the constricts of English Heritage. Great sound & great go. Good practice with some very well struck Norwich, Durham and Ipswich. 28th January 2008. Quarter of six spliced at Ardleigh. Not to bad, but there was not much Bristol. 26th January 2008. Not Hinderclay as hoped, but a peal at Euston. These used to be first class, but 25 years after re-hanging by Trevor, a little stiff. 23rd January 2008. Peal at the Wolery. Amused GET with a 2880 with rounds at all 4 points of the Treble lead. 19th January 2008. Peal at Ryhall Rutland. When the local vicar meets you and tells you 4 and 6 are difficult to get up right, you know its a Mills & Boon job. Still not a bad six and a most enjoyable peal. We think the first on them. On to Edith Weston. WOW. Really good six just a little to loud (Wilby like) in the ringing room. Fantastic house built very close to the tower. 16th January 2008. Peal at the Wolery. 36 Spliced Surprise. A fantastic start to the year. 41 is now very close with this band. WAAFS. (Well above average for Suffolk). 15th January 2008. Two teeth out. 14th January 2008. Quarter at Harkstead. New method Holbrook Surprise. Surprisingly a very nice method. 13th January 2008. Peal Aldeburgh, Daisy Hill S Major. My 200th different Surprise major as conductor. Good composition by Tony Peake which spread the 144 about. AAFS. I hear there has been a crisis meeting about SMLT. For all the good it will do. The retiring vicar has done nothing in his time at SMLT so maybe a change of clergy might help. There is no doubt that something needs to be done to protect Richard from the poison chalice that is SMLT. I also hear that the Ipswich St Lawrence job may now go to TESCO not Whites. Oh dear, another Kings Lynn, Kelvedon, Hadleigh or Boxford ? When will those allegedly in charge listen to the real ringers. 12th January 2008. Peal at Kimpton. Interesting bog standard eight that would not be out of place in Suffolk. On to Sandridge. Nice six with interesting assent ladder. 11th January 2008. K rang a quarter of Bob Triples at Kersey for Rolie's 80th birthday. 8th January 2008. Peal at Earl Stonham. (Not the best of Taylor's jobs). 6th January 2008. K&G to Kersey for service ringing. RCC on 8. 4th January 2008. Peal at Wormingford for Robert's birthday. Good old Bowell six and nice to see Peter again. 1st January 2008. Peal at Ewell. These are a very nice Whitechapel 1970 restoration. Very good if pushed along a bit. Nice method Lutterworth but a strange DFM composition with 51 cru's. Shame as 72 is easily achievable. BFLG interested in GETs facts about 1000 pealers. GET was 43 to 1000. Of those above him, only John Mayne, Bob Smith and Bernard are still alive. 30th December 2007. Peal at home, reduced to Beverley at short notice, so a chance to ring Roberts excellent composition again. 29th December 2007. Peal at Mortehoe, Devon. A super six in a idyllic setting. Then on to West Down. These are even better than Mortehoe. West Down were rung for the coronation. Great day out, thanks to Merv and Colin. 25th December 2007. Stutton ringing at 9 for 9.30. RCC, PBD, PBM, GD. One forgets just how good these bells are. Perhaps one of Bowells finest sixes. 24th December 2007. The annual outing to Long Stratton. 53 years. NBFN (not bad for Norfolk). Special thanks to Peter who stood in at the last minute as Michael was not well. Interesting composition of Robert Browns where rounds occur at all four possible points of the treble lead. Service ringing with GMS at Ardleigh, RCC on 7 and PB Doubles. On to Kersey for 10pm service ringing, where George rang really well. RCC on 5 and back 4 down in peal. 23rd December 2007. Peal Great Barrington. Again very good. These are a delightful six in very pretty surroundings. The weather and the cold were against us, but a very good peal rung. Nice to see Brian back even with a nose bleed. 22nd December 2007. Peal at Steeple Bumpstead. Typical Mills & Boon job. Not bad but need work. On to Tolleshunt Darcy. These are very good, my third visit and tea and biscuits afterwards. George got a ring at St Nicholas Ipswich as part of the ringing for christmas. 19th December 2007. Quarter of Kent TB Major at the Folly. Marked improvement by the end. Nearly rung 630 of Grandsire Triples very respectably but two bells when over. Went on TESCO (Taylors, Eyre & Smith), web site today to see what work they had done recently. I was very surprised to see Kings Lynn & Kelvedon listed as completed projects !!! 18th December 2007. Katharine left Henry with me and the lads so she could go to Bildeston. We coped for two hours. Guild Newsletter arrived, am I missing the point, how can somebody no matter how worthy, be a member of the Guild, when their name has not been in the list of members for 30 years? 16th December 2007. Morning ringing at Ardleigh with GMS. RCC8 and Plain Bob Triples. On to the Gislingham dedication, where there was a poor turn out of local district ringers. Nice service at 45 mins and an inspirational sermon from the new Bishop, Nigel Stock. Makes a pleasant change from there being only two references to bells in the Bible. As to the bells, testimony as to why White are currently the best. Super. Any tower thinking of having work done would be silly to not use the best. WHITES. As for the ringing, Stedman Triples, a full course of Yorkshire (please look this up next time Morris) and rounds and call changes. 15th December 2007. Peal Cricklade. WOW. Once you have overcome the draught, the pews and the possibility that you might not make it, these are just wonderful. One of the best sixes in terms of sound and surroundings. Only draw back was ringing with my back to Cynthia !!! 12th December 2007. Peal at the Wolery, 25 spliced surprise. We are getting there. 10th December 2007. Quarter at Harkstead in another new method Stutton. Very nice. 9th December 2007. Peal Aldeburgh of Elbut S Major. Alan completes surprise alphabet as conductor only the second current suffolk conductor to do this. So what happened at Redenhall ? Apparently 3 hours 10 and still lost. 8th December 2007. Peal at Bretfordton. Nice composition from Paul Mason to Timelessness S Major. On to Norton by Evesham. Nice peal of Nicagurai S Major on surprisingly good bells. Not at all what we were expecting. Exceptional to see Andrew Mills has become only the second person to turn in Liverpool single handed. Very well done. So who is now going to hang a bigger bell to challenge him ? 7th December 2007. Watch out for details of a peal of Lincolnshire S Royal at the Norman Tower rung for the St James Society yet there were 7 resident Suffolk members in the band. Not unlike Ufford, 28th June (6 resident members in the band) and 25th July Hollesley (6 resident members of the band). Not so long ago some of us were heavily criticized for ringing peals in Suffolk not for the Guild, with only two residents in the band. A lot of this criticism came from those now involved with the above three peals. Clearly some people need to consider their positions as vice-presidents of the Guild. There is a word for it, it begins with Hyp............... 4th December 2007. Quarter peal at Harkstead for the new vicar. 2nd December 2007. Service ringing at Ardleigh for G & D. RCC on 8 and Cambridge Minor. K,G,C,H to Bildeston for afternoon ringing and service to celebrate 10 years since the restoration of the bells. Peal at Tharston to mark 100 years of change ringing in the tower. (Cold). 28th November 2007. Nice little peal of Doubles at the Wolery. Yet another wonderful cake from Anne. 25th November 2007. Sunday service ringing for all three of us at Silsden with the President. On to Headingly St Michael. Hard work Taylor eight which could be first class except for the odd struckness. Interesting composition by Suffolk born, Alan M Barber. Peal board from 1956 says Martin Thorley. Guess who was outside when we got there? Katharine M Thorley. How lovely to see her. The family went for tea before doing the trains at Bolton. 24th November 2007. Peal at Tickhill. Nice bells, 92 steps up and big boxes for 7/8. Interesting composition from John R Fisher, concentrating on the little bell roll ups. On to Thornhill. Standard 9cwt eight. Apparently stays are held on with dowels and these some times drop out when ringing. The annual rendition of J W Washbrooks. 19th November 2007. Peal for the Queen & hubby at Great Amwell. Nice Gillett re-hung (1953) six, with a mixture of bells. 18th November 2007. Sunday service ringing at Ardleigh, with GMS. RCC on 8 plus Cambridge Minor. Nice. On to Yalding for a peal. This is what it is all about. Excellent ringing, only a handful of tiny mistakes. If only all peals could be like this. Pity about the church heater which came on in the 5th extent !!! 17th November 2007. Peal Saltby. Interesting Mills & Boon 10, more interesting method with 96 possible cru positions. 16th November 2007. Ringing World arrives. What another Non Association Peal George ? Interestingly the RW calendar for November shows Staines. 14th November 2007. Cracking peal at the Wolery. Morpeth in 1 hour 38 mins. Thats the way to ring it. 13th November 2007. Loss at Rushmere at the 25th course end. Pity, but it was cold. 12th November 2007. Quarter in a new method (Brantham) at Harkstead. No 65s. 11th November 2007. 250th peal at Aldeburgh. Very nice. AAFS. The sound of the muffled bells of Aldeburgh drifting through the town on Remembrance Sunday, must have been very moving. 10th November 2007. Peal at Rayleigh. Interesting bells, good sound and nice to ring under. Ernie Pye ran the tenor here in 1948 to a peal of PB Major (Barkers). On to Harlow Common. These are very good. First class eight. First peal of Kent Surprise rung here. 9th November 2007. Ringing World arrives. Little of interest except a composition of Lincolnshire Maximus by James Smith, where James uses 10 bobs to increase the middle leads giving extra 7890ET's off front. Very similar to Stephen Pettman's use of the 1T version of Lincolnshire from 1996 achieving the same result. 8th November 2007. Katharine, Henry & George to Kersey practice. George managed R&CC and Plain Hunt minor. 4th November 2007. Sunday ringing at Ardleigh, with George & Colin in tow (so mum cannot make me do chores while you and George are out). RCC on 7 & 8 plus a course of Cambridge S Minor. Nice. 3rd November 2007. Peal at the six at Clapham Common. Good peal but these are just an off-the shelf 90s Whitechappel 6 cwt six. In the same vein as Monewden. Interesting church though, William Wilberforce used to go there. 1st November 2007. Noticed a Suffolk Guild peal at East Pennard the second heaviest five in the world. At 3.37 a bit quick by Tim Collins standards. 31st October 2007. Nice peal of Doubles at the Wolery. Interesting piece in EADT about Richards visit to Lundy. However there is also a bit by GWP going on about how good Suffolk bells are. Since when ? He must live on another Suffolk. Suffolk bells have been plagued by preservation over the last 50 years resulting in some of the worst rings in the country. That coupled with the blind allegiance to one foundry !! Try a day out in Bedfordshire for a start George. 28th October 2007. KJS to Bildeston for service ringing. 27th October 2007. Peal Riseley. According to Tony Smith, Paul Taylor was born here. Very nice six. On to Keysoe, super five well worth the effort. 22nd October 2007. Quarter of Westminster at Harkstead. Last of the 41 for Gordon. 21st October 2007. Service ringing at Ardleigh with GMS. Rounds and call changes on 8, plus a bit of PB Minor. 20th October 2007. Peal at Tredington. Nice little six, but a very strange mish-mash of a tower. On to Tarrington Where another good peal was rung. These bells were challenging. 17th October 2007. Peal at The Wolery. 32 Spliced. Getting to grips with the Kelso types. Good practise proving that the band can do it. 14th October 2007. Ringing at St Matthew's Ipswich for service. Plain Bob Minor & Grandsire Doubles. (I hear that STMLT only met 6 whereas we had 8). Then to Aldeburgh for another WAAFS peal of Mr Rusty. Nice. 12th October 2007. George & I to Hollesley for practise. Very good. George managed plain hunt and kicking a box. Reasonable course of Superlative and finishing with an impressive touch of Grandsire Triples. In my view, very few Suffolk towers turn in a touch that good on a practise night. 11th October 2007. George and I to Wingfield, no signs of anyone else. So on to Earl Stonham, nobody there. So on to Stowmarket. Again nobody there. No ringing but a nice drive round!!! 7th October 2007. No ringing at Ardleigh. Peal at Kersey, Plain Bob Major for Henry with his Great Uncle, Grandad and father. Very nice again. WAAFS. 4th October 2007. Peal Cretingham. Lovely. Well above average for Suffolk (WAAFS). Winston had never rung there before. 3rd October 2007. Peal Blaxhall. AAFS but hard work. Special thanks to Anne for making this possible. Went to Gordons for afternoon ringing. My first ring at the Folly. Nice but a bit odd struck. Took George to Pettistree practise. He was very pleased to see Ruth. Some how he managed to talk Michael into letting him ring PB Minor inside !!! He does not know it, but thought he could improvise. 2nd October 2007. Peal Old Newton. Got it right this year with five ringers. Above average for Suffolk (AAFS) peal. Old Newton prove that local work and effort can produce results more effectively than condemning the ring and awaiting a huge restoration project. Took George to Offton. Brian made him work. Treble to Bob Major and covering to Stedman Triples. 1st October 2007. Peal at Lakenheath. In my humble view, the best sounding 6 bell tenor in the county. Nice. Yet another Non-Association peal in Worchester by a well known anti Non Association ringer. 30th September 2007. Peal Milton, new method Michaelmas. 96 crus for slightly different Byroc composition. 29th September 2007. Peal Stowmarket Grandsire Triples. Average for Suffolk (AFS). These are good triples bells but still a hard ring. 26th September 2007. Peal at the Wolery for Henry. Beautiful cake (thanks Ann). 24th September 2007. George & David to practise at Aldeburgh. No Richard, but George managed rounds and call changes. 23rd September 2007. George & David to Ardleigh for Sunday Service ringing. Rounds and call changes on five. 21st September 2007. 5.28 am Henry Albert Salter born at The Wolery. 8lb 3 oz. All doing well. Picture. 12th September 2007. Peal in 18 Surprise methods at the Wolery. Excellent. Bamborough and Warkworth are excellent real methods. 10th September 2007. Quarter Harkstead of College Exercise TB Minor. Completes the Treble Bobs on the bells. 9th September 2007. George & I to Ardleigh. Rounds and call changes on 7 plus 120 of Stedman Doubles. Peal Aldeburgh, Musbury S Major. Interesting composition by Robert Hardy. My 1200th peal for the Guild. 26th August 2007. George & I to Ardleigh. Nice rounds and call changes on 8. 23rd August 2007. Took George to Grundisburgh, where he rung rounds on 12. No comments about the practise except that ringers who could not ring Cambridge Royal 20 years ago, still seem incapable. 22nd August 2007. Touring band in Ipswich and they rang at all towers except St Nicholas. I heard them at St Laurence, whoops. Some came for a grab at the Wolery. Interestingly St Margarets (these bells cannot be rung during business hours), were rung from 10am till 10.40am. 21st August 2007. Deborah down tower grabing. George & Katharine went with them to Wyverstone, Finingham, Walsham-le-Willows, Hopton and Blo Norton. 15th August 2007. Peal at the Wolery (the last till Katharines confinement is over. 7 methods. Good fun. 14th August 2007. Katharine to Bildeston. 13th August 2007. Quarter at Harkstead of Norton-le-Moors Treble Bob Minor. This concludes the 29 from the book methods and this band has rung them in order from 1 to 29. With the previously rung 41 surprise & Harkstead Surprise 70 different methods in all. What next ? 12th August 2007. Sunday service ringing for George and Dad at Ardleigh. Some very nice rounds and call changes on eight and a course of Cambridge Minor. Peal Orford of Johannesburgh. Not sure if these bells are getting better, the fifth certainly has a mind of its own every now and then. Katharine & the lads went to the Folly for a grab. Good reports back. 11th August 2007. NE District outing to Oulton, Gorleston & Great Yarmouth. George is racking up his tower total now. (33). Usual selection of ringing but a couple of reasonable half courses of Yorkshire at Gorleston & Yarmouth. Nice to see Don at Yarmouth. 7th August 2007. Visiting band from Norfolk at The Wolery at 3.15pm. Katharine attended to them. Katharine then went to Bildeston. 6th August 2007. George & David to Holbrook practice. Bit of plain hunt for George and some reasonable Stedman. 5th August 2007. Peal at Milton. As usual very good but hot. 2nd August 2007. All the family to Wingfield. 1st August 2007. Peal the Wolery, 28 methods. 31st July 2007. Katharine at Bildeston, while the men played at Chessington. 30th July 2007. Quarter of Quantock TB at Harkstead. 29th July 2007. Ardleigh service ringing with George. 24th July 2007. Katharine to Bildeston. 23rd July 2007. Peal at the Wolery, Norwich Surprise Minor. 18th July 2007. All the family to Parham. Nice little six. Pity about the local complainant. 17th July 2007. Katharine & George to Bildeston. 15th July 2007. Ardleigh for service ringing George & I. Rounds and call changes on 6. 14th July 2007. Ringing World arrives, nice picture of the family Thorley on the back page. 11th July 2007. Took George to grab Otley, unfortunately no show so on to Pettistree where they were short and going on to help at Hacheston. So quick ring at Pettistree then on to Hacheston. Good evening with George managing Plain Hunt on 5 and 6. 10th July 2007. Katharine to Bildeston. 9th July 2007. Quarter at Harkstead, Snowden Treble Bob Minor. 8th July 2007. Aldeburgh for Zwirgi. Interesting all right place with 144 and 58 off front. 7th July 2007. Back to normal, peal ringing. Wingrave, nice Whites eight composition was OK but to many blocks of 3 said Bernard. Is this not imaginative use of Q sets? On to Linslade, again nice bells and nice method with 120 crus. Managed to visit narrow gauge railway as well but it was not running. 5th July 2007. Interesting article about Kings Lynn. Check out Bill Butlers blog for the 9th July. 4th July 2007. Good peal at The Wolery of 20 Spliced. Multi spliced minor coming on, but K will have to ease off now till after the birth. 1st July 2007. First loss of the year at The Wolery. 8th part of a 12 part Grandsire Triples. Still nice cake. George & David to Ardleigh for service ringing. The boy did well, rounds and call changes on eight. 30th June 2007. Ringing World arrives. Excellent article on Colins 5000th. Might have to let Robert know. 28th June 2007. David, Katharine & Colin to Wingfield. Good practise with improving plain hunt. 26th June 2007. Katharine & Colin to Bildeston. 25th June 2007. Peal at The Wolery, 7 Surprise including a new method Wherstead. Very nice. George away with the school for a week, and Katharine get 50 gift vouchers from Boots. Demon have finally sorted out my home page, and with Bliar going Things can only get better. 24th June 2007. The big day. Peal at Milton, Colins 5000. This year just gets better. Truly magnificent and very humbling. Over 38000 peals for the band that rang. Bernard never wavered an inch conducting as if it was just any peal. 21 1000 pealers at the party afterwards. And the Editor of the slippery Ringing World. According to George Thoday, Colin has an average for the whole of his life thus far of one peal every 3 days, 9 hours, 6 minutes and 54 seconds. Since his first peal the average is 2.29 days per peal. I am very delighted to have rung and looking back a day later, enjoyed it immensely. For picture. 23rd June 2007. Ringing World arrives. So Kings Lynn are now completely unringable. What a waste. It is not important to most ringers who is responsible. What is happening is that the hangers are getting blamed and possibly loosing work. If it is the architect tells us all who he is so we can avoid using him. Could not the Central Council sort this out ? Peal at Tostock. First with Ruth who rang very well. Big bang after 30 minutes when a vacuum cleaner exploded. Of course we did not stop. 21st June 2007. Colins birthday. All of us to Wingfield so we can ring and Colin can try out his new binoculars. 19th June 2007. Katharine & George to Bildeston while I battle with the Demon Help desk. DO NOT SHOP WITH BOOTS ON LINE Contact Katharine for details of their appalling service. to small. 17th June 2007. George & I to Ardleigh. Rounds and call changes on 6. Nice. 16th June 2007. Peal Alfold, new six (2003) three & three. Interesting. On to Wisborough Green. The real thing here. 1927 Taylors six. Magnificent. Colins 4999th peal. WOW. 15th June 2007. Belfry Advisory Committee at Clopton. George got a grab. In need of a lot of work, love and care. 12th June 2007. Katharine to Bildeston. 11th June 2007. Peal at the Wolery, Lightfoot. Difficult front work for a mini ring. Nice different composition by John Harrold, even with the 65s. 10th June 2007. Heard St Margarets ringing the front six for service. Then the eight and back to the front six just before service start. What is that all about? I might be in a minority but the eight sound grand across Ipswich, much better than the drone of SMLT. Peal Aldeburgh. Interesting method with places in 6th/5th instead of the 3rds place 56 dodge. JBP says that Wilfred Williams used to refer to a well know East Anglian ringer as having more faces than Big Ben. Now who did he mean ? 9th June 2007. Peal Weston Turville. Not the most musical of six's, they would not be out of place in Suffolk. None-the-less good ringing made them enjoyable. Peal East Claydon. Very nice six and a good peal rung. GMS & KJS rang at a wedding at Bildeston. 14 a rope. GMS very happy. 7th June 2007. DGS & GMS to Wingfield. Trevor Hughes visited. Plain Hunt on four coming on. 5th June 2007. KJS to Bildeston. 4th June 2007. Noticed on Campanophile that G (I doubt I will ever ring another peal) WP, rang a peal at Worcester Cathedral on Saturday. Nearly 4 hours. But most interestingly it was rung NON ASSOCIATION. If I remember correctly in 1993 (Salle), GWP said he did not ring non association peals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3rd June 2007. Peal at Milton. Very good. A nice musical (144 crus) new method. Asked Brian who killed Trollope at the 1946 Council Meeting, he did not know. Watch this space. 30th May 2007. Visit to Cricklade. Wow. A super six in a fantastic church. Except for the pews the 50 foot draft is not a hurdle. Several nice pieces of Surprise and George rung surprisingly well. 28th May 2007. Central Council in Cheltenham. Oh dear. A finer examples of what Philip is on about you could not have wished for. Two motions, should not have been presented in their published form. This must be down to the all powerful admin committee. CC members who do not understand the rules about naming Doubles & Minor methods, showing their ignorance. All that was needed was a motion to allow new methods triples and over to be named in quarters. It's not much to ask. CC fees, interesting that the G&B would consider leaving council rather than pay 3.5p extra per member. But does the Council need the money. What about the non-territorial societies? Ringing World meeting included a defeat of a motion to limit audits. Still no innovation to improve the RW. But Jackie did plead for new subscribers. Simple improve the contents and you will get more subscribers. Interesting Ian Oram, offered large print copies of the accounts. This must prove that the RW is printed to small. Few reports with compositions in the, but got two new books, one about A J Pitman. Interesting but why are not all the compositions given. 26th May 2007. Peal Cheltenham. Dreadful twelve, that do not get any better. On to Dursley for Bristol. Very nice with a new wooden clapper on the tenor. However the tenor was very slow at hand and very quick at back. Meanwhile, Katharine & George went grabbing at Welford, Mickleton and Chipping Campden. Needless to say up to the usual high standard expected at CC events with George not being the worst ringing in the tower. Usual problems with grabbers not want to stop to help out other ringers. 24th May 2007. Quarter at Great Holland. One forgets what a good eight these are. Nice to ring with Mr & Mrs S again. 22nd May 2007. Katharine to Bildeston. 21st May 2007. Peal at the Wolery of 14 spliced, band in cracking form. Nice one and 900 together for Katharine & I. Really please to see Cynthia scored her 1000th. Welcome to the club. 20th May 2007. George & I to Ardleigh for service ringing. Nine present, rounds and call changes on 8 for all. Just been looking at my CC booklet for this years meeting. Looking forward to ringing at Ranwick, which are given as a 12, 25cwt. Not aware of this augmentation. Then we need to check out Stow on the Wold, tenor 12cwt. Lost a bit since I rang a peal there. So Grundisburgh won the Guild six bell, with SMLT disqualified for a 240 of Grandsire that was over 400 changes long. History repeats its self. And the South East won the 8 bell at Hadleigh. Well done not an easy eight by any means and they can be mean. 19th May 2007. Peal at Edwinstowe, nice little six in a very nice ringing room. Unfortunately the bells were very odd struck. On to Cuckney. Forget the ropes and all the birds in the tower, these are terrific. Lots of gas for a 10cwt six, and the music just flowed down the tower. This was Cynthias 999th peal. Meanwhile, Grandma took George to Wivenhoe, his 20 tower, for the practice. 17th May 2007. Nice little peal of Doubles at the Wolery. 1.33 a very respectable time. 16th May 2007. Ringing World for Friday 11th May 2007, arrived today. Article on Loughton yet again proves how the national media twist stories and lie about events for their own agendas. 14th May 2007. Quarter at Harkstead, Ockley Treble Bob Minor. As with Capel, a very good method retaining the Oxford characteristics. 13th May 2007. Peal Aldeburgh, Heene S Major. Interesting little method. Heard that Trevor Hughes & Julie Allen had tied the knot the Friday previous. ST MLT entered the SE District Striking Comp, but Grundisburgh won. 12th May 2007. Peal at St Matthews to mark the start of Christian Aid week. Mary A injured (get well soon). On to ring at St Mary Le Quay, George did well to keep the 5th up, and then St Clements. On of the best sounding sixes in the county. The time has come to see if we can get these bells restored to their former glory. The East Anglian Daily Times publishes a bit about St Lawrence Ipswich stating : The church contains six bells, believed to be the oldest in Ipswich. Accurate as ever !!!! 10th May 2007. George & I to Wingfield. Good practise specially the firing. Tommy in good form. 7th May 2007. First tower, Goodleigh.Yet another super six, re-hung in the late 90s by Nicholsons. They just dreamed along. On the down side, just a bit hot in the ringing room. On to Molland where the pub (The London Arms), was very nice. Bells good, just a bit stiff, but again a good peal rung. Thanks to Mervyn for yet another years successful organisation and yet more wonderful Devon towers. Do not forget that H9 knots do not damage the rope. 6th May 2007. On to Dartmoor and Holne. Very nice six and very tuneful. The harmonics just clicked. The go is helped by the new guides. 5th May 2007. Peal Otterton. These bells would not be out of place in Suffolk. Not quite tuneful and hard work. Still a good peal scored. Katharine took the children to Pecorama. On to Uplyme where Katharine rung whilst I took the children to the Seaton Tramway. Excellent. Back in time to hear the last extent and a bit. Very nice sounding bells, expertly rung. 3rd May 2007. No ringing at Wingfield as the church is used as a polling station. 1st May 2007. Katharine & George to Bildeston. More plain hunt for the little man. 29th April 2007. Down to Milton. Yorkshire by a new composer for me, Martin W Marshall. 28th April 2007. Peal Whissendine Rutland. Nice six if a bit sluggish. Hung in a 1919 Days of Eye wooden frame. Shame we appear to have no full record of Days work. On to Exton, super and a wonderful church. 26th April 2007. All the family to Wingfield. Plain hunt doubles for all. 24th April 2007. Katharine & George to Bildeston practice. George managed Plain Hunt. 22nd April 2007. George and I to Ardleigh, rounds and call changes on the eight, Katharine & Colin to Bildeston. 21st April 2007. Peal Stanstead Kent. Nice little Whitechapel 5cwt six. Pretty village but recently somebody has stolen two of the outside church lights. Bernards fan club turned up to watch and take pictures midway through the first extent. Then on to Sidcup. Strange looking church but a quite fetching victorian interior with santus bell. Interesting bells, bit odd struck but rewarding. Ringing World arrived today, yet again peals all over the place. A letter in from J Warren about an attempt to ring on an un-ringable five Occold and how appalling this was. Is this the same J Warren who used to go illicit tower grabbing with J Spiller and co a few years ago ? Nice story today about a brother/father who had to put a bob in for his son and put his brother right in the last course. 19th April 2007. George & I went to Wingfield. Plain hunt on three progress. 18th April 2007. Peal at the Wolery in 10 Surprise minor. Southminster make a nice change in the Westminster group. 17th April 2007. Katharine went to Bildeston practice. 16th April 2007. Monthly quarter at Harkstead of Capel Treble Bob. Nice method this retaining the link with Oxford in that as Martin Thorley would say even when the tenors are parted they are together. Pity its not rung more these days. This band has been meeting since February 2001, and has rung the standard from the book 41 surprise minor, Harkstead Minor and 24 of the Treble Bob minors. Not bad going. 15th April 2007. To my favourite new eight, Milton. If only all new jobs were like Milton. Strange Delight method, but a new composer for me, Giles B Thompson. 14th April 2007. Two peal day with Katharine, first Manuden, a nice six. Local job done with Whitechapel assistance, Trevor Bailey checked them over. Then on to Arkesden, another Whitechapel six, re-hung in 1999. Bit loud in the ringing room, but good. Tenor exceptional, by Bowell 1931. 20 seconds to read this weeks RW, (peals in no particular order). Again advertisement showing SG AGM at Bury. 12th April 2007. Day out with the lads to Howletts wild animal park. Then on to Lympe. Usual problems coming back via the tunnel. Computer back after hard disc failure. All working again. 08th April 2007. George & I, went to Ardleigh to ring for the 10.30 service. He did well. Katharine & Colin went to Kersey to ring for the 11.00 service. Rounds and call changes at both towers. Aldeburgh peal of Vectis S Major. Interesting composition from Harry Poyner, only 57 crus, which is good for the falseness groups, but loads of other music. 166 combinations of 5678 in 5678. Most enjoyable. WAAFS. (Well above average for suffolk). RW says Suffolk Guild AGM is at Bury St Edmunds. Typical RW accuracy. 06th April 2007. Good Friday peal day, with some very talented guests. First Little Bob by John Pladdys, (the only way I could get to call a peal composed by John). Nice method for little bells, keeping the rhythm steady. Of course the old boys used to ring Little Bob, Forward & Kent to teach rhythm on higher numbers. Lots of good chat and yet again a suggestion that there be a large print version of the Ringing World. I would prefer a talking book version read by the contributors. Book reviews would be exciting. Second peal Cambridge, on little bells Middletons is surprisingly fresh and exciting. And finally 5 Surprise Minor. A nice end to the day. Lots of food and tea and good company. Lovely day. Thanks to all. 04th April 2007. After a week or so off ringing, work very busy and house work needed doing, a little peal of 15 Surprise Minor at the Wolery, just to get our eyes in. Guild Report received, looks good. But still no clues as to who rang for St Mary Le Tower, representing Suffolk in the 12 bell. 25th March 2007. Very early start with a loss of one hours sleep but still managed to arrive in Wigan at just before 11am. What can you say about Wigan bells ? WOW a real ten, sounding great and totally absorbing. Great peal of London and I could easily have put up listening to these bells all day. Katharine said they thundered impressively down Market Street. Home via Melton Mowbray who were ringing for service as we passed with an unusual interpretation of change ringing. 24th March 2007. Early start to get down to Westwood. Nice little (4cwt) Whitechapel six done up in 1979. Pretty spot with Westwood Hall NT, adjoining the church. Quick tower grab at Downhead, Somerset. A 4cwt three recently done up by Matthew. Good fun. On to Stapleford, Wiltshire. Again a nice job, this time by Mills & Boon, done up in 1999. Huge delays on M3 and M25 getting home. 23rd March 2007. John F Jennings funeral at Wickham Market. Good turn out. Ringing World arrives, included apologies for Felixstowe, Essex. Blamed on type setter. Have they not heard of proof checking !! 22nd March 2007. George and I went to Wingfield practise. Angie ringing the tenor (no problem). 21st March 2007. Nice peal of Cambridge at The Wolery. Roger Baileys old standby. Nice to have Mary A back in the team. 20th March 2007. Katharine went to Bildeston practise. 19th March 2007. Quarter of Pennine Treble Bob Minor at Harkstead. Nice little method perhaps the best of the hills. Gordon brought new mats! 18th March 2007. No ringing today. Had to visit mothers and cut the grass. 17th March 2007. Peal Closworth Somerset. Nice five recently re-hung but there is clearly a problem upstairs as you seem to be ringing the tower. And very odd struck to boot. Peal Chiselborough. Much better than Closworth, chancel ring with stone vaulting above. Pity West Coker are nowhere as good. 16th March 2007. Learnt that John Jennings from Woodbridge had died. John was very good to us as youngsters and used to take us to the British Legion and Melton Grange. Always cheery the last time I saw him was the Loyalty service at Debenham. 2 @ FVdr7G/1B-`p'}(9 !!!/&@&&''')'))*K*_***&+:+++ ,,,,U-h-[.n...y//!05011j1}122r2OJQJ5OJQJ\`u 3 Gd8R971$a$Ը`}( !/&&'f())K**&+++ ,,U-[...z/"011j12r2344&57]888?99 ;;~<=>?@,BVCEFF:GGG$a$r22344444&59577]8p88889>9Q999999 ;4;;;~<<=*=>>??@@,B@BVCjCEEFF:GNGGGnHHIJLLLLLMNNSNhNP%PaQwQQQS,SSS!T"T7TTTTT/UAUUUVV-X>XXX[YnYff gbgwggg:hOhhh!i6iii jjxjjFkXkkkYlklpmmnnpnnnnooq%qr&rrr ssFsWsussssst)t9t`tpttttt#u3uTuduuuvvwOJQJ5OJQJ\`g:hh!ii jxjjFkkYlpmnpnnoqqrr sFsusss)t`ttt#u$a$#uTuuvw*wjwwx_yyz*{{{|A2Xcaԃ$a$ww*w9wjwywwwx y_ynyyyzz*{:{{{{{||AQ2BXcsaqԃ $3[j ԊAP7F֑ߖ#2Tb&a5CJ$OJQJ\aJ$OJQJ5OJQJ\[[$[ Ԋj@A7֑ߖ#kOT$a$Ta*I2\ɥѥ vG֩<$a$aoƟ*;\mѥ GX֩j{v RSƴִ&7׵etݷ56ҸԸOJQJ5OJQJ\;<vUjԭC(jկHiԱvHSƴ&$a$׵e_ݷ6ҸӸԸ$a$ #0P/ =!"#$% i8@8 NormalCJ_HaJmH sH tH <A@< Default Paragraph FontԴu3 G d8R971`}(/""#f$%%K&&&''' ((U)[***z+",-j-.r./00&13]444?55 77~89:;<,>V?ABB:CCChDoDD?EEgFF9GHHITJJKLcMMENOOO P!P"P#PPP/QQR-TTT[U >}>>}????@@AAC CYCbCyCCCC DD;DDDDDDEFFG GHHHHHIJ%.PTJQS\jqʍӍY`"[cǓBGÕOVo| 9>KS[a*3$/ QZ$-<B 2;y-6:?en{Z`&+flCJ-5{%,U[±˱ƲϲdqȴдִQT7t;TZg1PXV c " D E ` d Z`35FG]6ypwRV 7/cloB]^K^p'|LNPb^>Z_en @!!!!u"{"""##V$e$f$$$$ %%?%%&I&''<(F((()?){))))&*N*n**++++o,{,+.q./A/0*0+0I0M0O00000011#1]1111j3s333#43453545=5c6h67778589888*9M9X9s92:p:::;;;;; <<<< = =*=>)>Z>i>j??@@tBBBBNCCCCCD;DFDhDlDDD?EHEEEEEgFjFF+G9GNEN^N}NN OOnOOOOOO7PSPTPnPPPP$QCQ[Q\QfQQQ RBRRRRRS+T@TmTTTT"U#USUUUVV WBWWWWXeXXX7YEYYYYYYZ[[[[]\\\\\]]]]]]^^^^^W_j_k____``1a5aBaGaccd9dOdwddd;e=efeoepeefNffff'g(gEgXgogJiLiiijjjjkkkkmnnnno*oEoWosop'p9p^ppppppq!q3qSqs)syssss u/u?uFuuvIvYvZvv:w`www xxqx{xxx*yNyOywyyyyz4{@{v{y{{{|||||}B}S}}}X~Z~s~~~~$FZq+PR\5?[_̓#6Ez/5Wpw Zb"kzՉjvڋF_ԍˎюَۏߏ#'ёlqݒړ!Qk@SїDE~@_U oƛ՛֛ ޜ ;d$-ğ-125QYɡΡK٣Dfzԥ,<BX~#*Tu#CJ~ڨjpCI&(Nի׫(HJ+2ԭݭ!HMuЯ 4SZİ%]xdzʳ68ִ33333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333EӴִ Mr SalterGC:\Documents and Settings\Mr Salter\My Documents\DGSDocs\BlogBackup.docHomeAC:\Documents and Settings\PLC\My Documents\DGSDocs\BlogBackup.doc@ؗBԴ@@UnknownGz Times New Roman5Symbol3& z Arial7& Verdana"qh$&ʦ (L>!0 Mr SalterHomeOh+'0T (4<DLss Mr Salter r SNormaleHomele29eMicrosoft Word 9.0@H'@ptئ@{%(՜.+,0 hp| >L Title !"#$%&'()*+,-./0123456789:;<=>?@ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ[\]^_`abcdefghijklmnopqstuvwxyz{|}~Root Entry F0;{%1TablerBWordDocument%SummaryInformation(DocumentSummaryInformation8CompObjjObjectPool0;{%0;{% FMicrosoft Word Document MSWordDocWord.Document.89q
